José Olallo
Beatified Cuban Hospitaller Brother (1820–1889)

Who they were
José Olallo Valdés was born in Havana, Cuba, on 12 February 1820 to unknown parents, left at the St Joseph orphanage and baptised there. At thirteen or fourteen he joined the Hospitaller Order of St John of God at the hospital of Saints Philip and James in Havana.
From 1876, when his last fellow brother died, until his own death in 1889, he served the sick alone, faithful to God and his vows, humble and obedient to all, loving even the ungrateful and envious. The people called him 'Father Olallo'.

A foundling who became a brother of the sick and served them, alone, to the end.
