Who they were
José Rescalvo Ruiz was born at Juviles on 20 May 1880 and ordained priest on 22 September 1906; he was killed on 29 September 1936 at his sisters' house, forgiving those who killed him, having told his family not to weep for him. He was beatified on 26 February 2022 by Pope Francis among Cayetano Giménez Martín and fifteen companions.
The miracles
As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
The decree on martyrdom records that he was put to death in hatred of the faith during the persecution of the Church in Spain.
