José Romero Ortega was born at Almería on 2 April 1875, and was ordained priest in 1905.
He was killed on 28 August 1936 on the road to Huércal, and Pope Francis beatified him on 25 March 2017 among José Álvarez-Benavides de la Torre and 114 companions, diocesan priests and lay faithful killed between 1936 and 1938.
