José Ruiz Montero was a seminary student, of Puente Genil, born on 25 March 1914.

The decree on martyrdom records that he was put to death on 23 July 1936, one of Juan Elías Medina and his 126 companions who died between 1936 and 1939; Pope Francis beatified the group on 16 October 2021.
