Father José Soto Chuliá, ordained for Valencia in 1910, was parish priest at Bolulla and El Cabañal before moving to Málaga, where he was spiritual director of the seminary from 1920 to 1950, and founded the Work of St Teresa, the Work of St John of Ávila and the Priestly Fraternity of St John of Ávila.

The diocesan process opened in Valencia in 2010 and Archbishop Enrique Benavent closed it in the cathedral on 18 November 2023; the archdiocese calls him Servant of God.
