Who they were

Near Madrid in Spain, Blessed María del Refugio (María Gabriela) Hinojosa y Naveros and five companions, virgins of the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary and martyrs, who, during the persecution, although enclosed in their monastery, were arrested by militiamen through deceit and went to meet Christ the Bridegroom, killed by gunfire.

Among those named is Blessed Josefa María (Carmen) Barrera y Izaguirre.

As a martyr she was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers her on 18 November among the Visitation nuns shot near Madrid during the persecution.
