Who they were
Giuseppe Marello was born in Turin on 26 December 1844 and grew up at San Martino Alfieri near Asti; devotion to Our Lady shaped his vocation. Ordained on 19 September 1868, he served the diocese of Asti as the bishop's secretary and in the curia.
He founded the Oblates of St Joseph for the moral and Christian education of the young, and became Bishop of Acqui. Though in poor health he went to Savona for the third centenary of St Philip Neri's death, and died there on 30 May 1895.
