Who they were
Josep Oriol was born in Barcelona on 23 November 1650 to a poor family; his father, a silk weaver, died six months later, and his stepfather, a shoemaker, loved him as his own and entrusted him to the parish priest of Santa Maria del Mar, where he sang in the choir.
A priest of bodily mortification, poverty and constant prayer, his soul always turned to God and full of heavenly joy, he served faithfully for fifteen years; the sick came to him in growing numbers for the healings attributed to him.
