Joseph Paraire

Who they were

Joseph Paraire, called Brother Louis in religion, was born at Vincennes on 2 December 1919, entered the Franciscan novitiate at Amiens on 25 August 1939 and professed on 25 March 1942. Sent to Cologne under the compulsory labour service on 17 September 1943, he was arrested on 13 July 1944 and died on 26 April 1945, aged 25, in the evacuation of Buchenwald. He was beatified on 13 December 2025 by Pope Leo XIV.
