Who they were
José Pignatelli y Moncayo was born on 27 December 1737 in his family's castle at Zaragoza, of a noble house, and entered the Society of Jesus young; he was ordained in 1762. He longed to go to the missions in America, but tuberculosis left him in fragile health all his life.
When the Society was all but extinct, he worked tirelessly to bring it back to life, outstanding for charity, humility and integrity, always seeking the greater glory of God.
