Who they were
Thamby was born at Karaikal in French Pondicherry and lived as a lay Secular Franciscan, working with missions in Kerala, north India and Andhra Pradesh, where he died at Avutapally.

Why that counted as sanctity
The Joseph Thamby Shrine, which runs his cause, publishes his life and the testimonies gathered for it under the title Servant of God; the Holy See gave the nihil obstat on 15 October 2005 and the diocesan inquiry opened at Vijayawada on 24 June 2007.
