Juan Alonso Fernández

Who they were

Born at Cuérigo in Asturias on 28 November 1933, he made his first profession in the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart in 1953 and was ordained priest on 11 June 1960; sent that same year to Guatemala, he served in parishes of the diocese of Quiché, spent 1963 to 1965 in Indonesia, and on his return founded the parish of Santa María Reina at Lancetillo. He was tortured and killed at La Barranca on 15 February 1981.
