Who they were
Julio Álvarez Mendoza was born at Guadalajara on 20 December 1866 and spent his whole priestly life as parish priest of Mechoacanejo, Jalisco: a simple priest, poor among the poor, father and friend of the children.
He taught people small trades so they could live, and having learned tailoring, sewed clothes for those in need. He was one of the 25 martyrs of the Mexican persecution, led by St Cristóbal Magallanes, most of them priests killed for exercising their ministry.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
