A Franciscan priest, he was known for holiness and as a scientist, physician, historian and poet, creating Lithuanian botanical terminology and writing some fifty botanical works.

Why that counted as sanctity
The Dicastery for the Causes of Saints gave the nihil obstat on 10 February 2026, and Bishop Algirdas Jurevičius of Telšiai opened the diocesan beatification inquiry in the church of Kretinga on 12 April 2026, which gave him the title Dievo tarnas (Servant of God).
