Who they were

Lambert, born at Maastricht of noble parents, succeeded St Theodard as its bishop in 670. Exiled by Ebroin, he spent seven years at the Abbey of Stavelot, edifying the monks by his holy life.

Restored by Pepin of Heristal, he preached to the pagans of Toxandria with St Willibrord. He was martyred at Liège about 700 for defending the marriage bond.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
