Laurent Bâtard

Who they were

Laurent Bâtard was a priest of the diocese of Angers who, while the French Revolution raged, was guillotined at Angers with Guillaume Repin for his faithfulness to the Church. He was beatified on 19 February 1984 by Pope John Paul II, with Guillaume Repin and the ninety-eight other martyrs of Angers.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

He was one of the ninety-nine put to death at Angers and Avrillé in 1793 and 1794 for holding to the Catholic faith.
