Who they were
At Alexandria in Egypt, commemoration of Saint Leonides, martyr, who under the emperor Septimius Severus was pierced with the sword for his faith in Christ, leaving Origen, his son, still a child.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 22 April as a martyr of Alexandria under Septimius Severus and father of Origen.
