Who they were
Louis-Antoine Ormières was born and baptised at Quillan, in the diocese of Carcassonne, on 14 July 1809, second of five children, and was ordained on 21 December 1833. In 1838, when typhus struck the region, he put himself fearlessly at the service of the sick and isolated, and was called 'martyr of charity'.
He founded the Sisters of the Guardian Angel and spent his many gifts on education. When he died in Gijón, the whole city said: 'The saint is dead!'
