Who they were
Luis Beltrán was born in Valencia on 1 January 1526 and entered the Dominicans there at nineteen; the prior who received him foretold he would be a second St Vincent Ferrer. At 25 he was made novice master and guided his novices wisely for ten years.
He went to South America, taught the Gospel of Christ to indigenous peoples and defended them from their oppressors. Returning home in 1569, he was again novice master and prior in Valencia. He is patron of Colombia.
