Louis Pourtois

Who they were

Louis Pourtois was a layman born at Besançon on 24 May 1919 and baptised on 6 July; he left school at thirteen to become an errand boy and helped found the Cœurs Vaillants group in his parish. Recruited for the compulsory labour service on 7 December 1942 and sent to Eisenach, where he worked for Catholic Action, he was arrested on 19 April 1944 and died at Mauthausen on 20 April 1945, aged 25. He was beatified on 13 December 2025 by Pope Leo XIV.
