Born at Bourg-de-Péage in France on 31 January 1914, he entered the Cistercian Trappist monastery of Aiguebelle in 1941, went to Algeria in 1946 and was one of the Trappist monks of Tibhirine. Pope Francis beatified him with Bishop Pierre Claverie and his eighteen companions on 8 December 2018.
The miracles
As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
The decree on martyrdom counts him among the monks of Tibhirine killed in Algeria.
