Who they were
Maria Ripamonti was born at Acquate, Lecco, on 26 May 1909. In 1932 she went to Brescia to join the Handmaids of Charity, and in 1938 made her final vows, taking the name Lucia of the Immaculate.
She died at the Ronchettino hospital near Brescia on 4 July 1954, aged 45.
The miracles
a six-year-old girl — Italy — 1967
A six-year-old child, close to death after a terrible car accident, was healed.
Her beatification, set for 9 May 2020, was postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic and held in Brescia Cathedral on 23 October 2021. One more approved miracle is needed for canonisation.
Why that counted as sanctity
The case of a six-year-old girl was examined by the Church's doctors and theologians and approved as a miracle on 13 May 2019, opening the way to beatification. Beatification followed on 23 October 2021 by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, for Pope Francis.
