Who they were
At Rome, the commemoration of Saints Ptolemy, Lucius and another companion, who, as Saint Justin relates, were recognised as Christians for having censured the licentiousness of morals and the injustice of the sentences, and were condemned under the emperor Antoninus Pius by the prefect Lollius Urbicus.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 19 October as a martyr at Rome condemned under the emperor Antoninus Pius by the prefect Lollius Urbicus.
