Ludger
Bishop of Münster in Westfalen

Who they were
Ludger, of a wealthy noble Frisian family, saw St Boniface as a boy and was deeply moved by his martyrdom. He studied at St Gregory's school at Utrecht and under Alcuin at York.
He preached to the Frisians and Saxons, recovered St Lebuinus's relics, and led the missions of East Frisia from Dokkum, where Boniface was martyred. He became the first Bishop of Münster and died on 26 March 809.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
