Who they were
Luigi Caburlotto was born in Venice on 7 June 1817 into a poor, devout family, and ordained on 24 September 1842. From 1849 he was parish priest of San Giacomo dell'Orio in Venice, among craftsmen who often could not earn enough to live.
He founded the Daughters of St Joseph to educate girls and young people, and was known as a man of prayer and a gifted educator who could talk to anyone. He died on 9 July 1897.
The miracles
A woman — Rome, Italy — 12 February 2008
A woman had long suffered from dermatomyositis, a disease of the muscles, which grew much worse from 1999 with many other symptoms; repeated hospital stays did nothing and her outlook was very poor. Devoted to Father Caburlotto through the Daughters of St Joseph, she prayed to him with the sisters. At dawn on 12 February 2008, after being practically bedridden for a long time, she got out of bed. She recovered and afterwards enjoyed good health.
Why that counted as sanctity
The case of a woman was examined by the Church's doctors and theologians and approved as a miracle on 9 May 2014, opening the way to beatification.
