Who they were
Luis de Granada, born of very humble parents in 1505, became a Dominican at nineteen and was chosen for advanced studies at Valladolid. For forty years he preached with extraordinary success.
In Portugal he became provincial and confessor to the queen regent; he refused two archbishoprics and a cardinal's hat. He is among the greatest spiritual writers of Spain. He died at Lisbon on 31 December 1588.
