At Alexandria in Egypt, commemoration of Saint Macarius, martyr, who, in the time of the emperor Decius, was long urged with words by the judge to deny Christ, but, having professed his own faith with still greater firmness, was by that same judge's order burned alive.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 8 December as a martyr burned alive at Alexandria under Decius after refusing to deny Christ.
