Who they were
Maddalena Caterina Morano was born at Chieri near Turin on 15 November 1847, sixth of eight children. Her father died in 1855; at eight she began working at the loom, and at ten wanted to become a teacher.
A Salesian Sister, a Daughter of Mary Help of Christians, she devoted herself to catechesis, travelling tirelessly the length and breadth of Sicily.
