Malo
Welsh saint who became founder of Saint-Malo in Brittany
Feast: 15 November (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Malo (Machutus), born about 520, probably in Wales, was baptised by St Brendan and became his favourite disciple, sailing with him on his voyages; he preached in the Orkneys and northern isles.
At Aleth in Brittany he became the disciple of the hermit Aaron and, after his death, the first bishop of the place now called Saint-Malo. In old age he withdrew to spend his last days in prayer and penance.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
