Who they were
At Caesarea in Cappadocia, in present-day Turkey, Saint Mammes, martyr, who, a most humble shepherd, lived alone among the forests of the mountains in utmost frugality and suffered martyrdom under the emperor Aurelian for having professed his faith in Christ.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 17 August as a humble shepherd martyred under Aurelian.
