Who they were

Manuel Izquierdo Izquierdo was born at Castillo de Locubín on 9 December 1853, was ordained priest on 14 March 1891 and from 1921 to 1936 was parish priest of Nuestra Señora de Gracia at Villardompardo. He was killed on 28 September 1936 at the age of eighty-three. Pope Leo XIV beatified him on 13 December 2025.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

His martyrdom was particularly cruel: after various tortures and mutilations he was put to death.
