Who they were
At Die in Lugdunensis Gaul, in present-day France, Saint Marcellus, bishop, who, as defender of the city, was sent into exile by the Arian king Euric for having kept the Catholic faith.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
