Who they were

In a squalid galley at anchor in the sea off Rochefort in France, Blesseds Marcel Gaucher de La Biche de Reignefort, of the Society of the Missions, and Pierre-Joseph Le Groing de La Romagère, priests and martyrs: the first from the territory of Limoges, the other from Bourges, during the French Revolution they were delivered in hatred of the faith to inhuman imprisonment, dying afterwards exhausted by starvation and disease.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 26 July as a priest martyr who died of starvation and disease on a prison galley off Rochefort during the French Revolution.
