Marcelino Martín Rubio

Who they were

Marcelino Martín Rubio was born at Espinosa de Villagonzalo in Spain on 4 November 1913 and entered the monastery of Santa María de Viaceli; at the end of his novitiate he did not renew his vows and left, but he came back in 1935, more settled and more fervent.

He was beatified on 3 October 2015 by Pope Francis, among the Spanish Cistercian martyrs of the Strict Observance.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

The Dicastery for the Causes of Saints names him among the Spanish Trappist martyrs beatified on 3 October 2015.
