Who they were

In Egypt, Saints Marcian, Nicander, Apollonius and companions, martyrs, who, as tradition says, for having professed the Christian faith, after dreadful torments, were shut inside a walled enclosure and exposed to the burning sun, dying at last worn out by the heat, by thirst and by hunger.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 5 June as a martyr in Egypt who was shut in a walled enclosure and left to die in the burning sun.
