Marciano José Filomeno López

Who they were
Brother Marciano José (Filomeno López López) was born at El Pedregal, in the province of Guadalajara, on 15 November 1900, into a working family. An ear illness sent him home from the Brothers of the Christian Schools, but he was taken back on condition of doing manual work; he made his first vows on 9 July 1919 and perpetual vows on 9 July 1925.
In 1934 he offered to take the place at Turón, in Asturias, of a Brother who was afraid to stay there. Soon after he arrived the community was seized, and on 9 October 1934 he was shot with his fellow Brothers. He is one of the Martyrs of Turón, canonised in 1999.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

One of the Martyrs of Turón; he went to Turón in place of a frightened confrère and died there.
