Who they were
In Moesia, in the lands lying today between Romania and Bulgaria, the commemoration of Saints Marcus and Mucianus, martyrs, who, for having refused to sacrifice to idols and having professed Christ all the more strongly instead, were beheaded for him.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
