Margaret of Hungary
Hungarian princess and saint (1242-1270)

Who they were
Margaret was born in 1242, daughter of King Béla IV of Hungary and Queen Maria. Her parents vowed her to God for the deliverance of their country from the Tartars, and in 1252 she was taken to the Dominican monastery of St Mary on the Island of Hares in the Danube near Buda, founded by her father.
Professed at twelve, she gave herself so wholly to God that she longed to be made like Christ crucified. She died in her convent on 18 January 1270, and her tomb became a place of pilgrimage.
The miracles
Her canonisation was equivalent, confirming centuries of veneration. More than three thousand people were present at one of the miracles attributed to her.

A princess offered to God for her country, who became a nun of complete self-giving.
