Who they were
Margaret, orphaned young and raised by her grandfather King René, married the Duke of Alençon in 1488. Widowed in 1492, she governed the duchy and educated her children.
Then she renounced the world, founded a monastery of Poor Clares at Argentan, and took the habit there, making her vows in 1520. After a year of the humblest and most austere life she died a holy death in her cell on 2 November 1521.
