Who they were
Marguerite Rutan was born at Metz on 23 April 1736. At 21 she entered the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul and served the sick in hospitals across France.
At the hospital of Dax, near St Vincent's birthplace, she was arrested during the Revolution. Tied back to back with a priest, she sang the Magnificat on the way to execution, watched him die and was then put to death herself.
The miracles
As a martyr she was raised to the altars without a miracle.
