Maria Bertilla Boscardin

Who they were
Anna Francesca Boscardin was born into a poor farming family at Brendola, near Vicenza, on 6 October 1888, and had little schooling; her treasured book was the catechism her parish priest gave her.
As Sister Maria Bertilla of the Sisters of St Dorothy, she worked in the hospital at Treviso for the health of the sick in body and soul. Struck by a tumour at 22, she kept working faithfully and died at 34 on 20 October 1922.

A simple farm girl who became a saint nursing the sick in a hospital ward.
