Who they were
Libânia do Carmo Galvão Meixa de Moura Telles e Albuquerque was born at Amadora, near Lisbon, on 15 June 1843, third of seven children of an aristocratic family, and learned in a faith-filled home to love God and to open herself to the afflicted and poor.
As Sister Maria Clara of the Child Jesus she became superior of the convent of St Patrick and, guided by her director, reformed the Capuchin community so thoroughly that it became a new congregation, the Franciscan Hospitaller Sisters of the Immaculate Conception. Her life was marked by charity and trust in Providence.
