Who they were
Maria Crescentia Höss was born on 20 October 1682 to a modest wool weaver in the free imperial city of Kaufbeuren, two-thirds Protestant. Clever and devout, she became a weaver, longing to enter the Franciscan convent there.
A Franciscan tertiary, she burned with love for the Holy Spirit and tried to share it with others. She had many visions, which she spoke of only under obedience, and gave the convent a firm rule. She died on Easter Day, 5 April 1744.
