Who they were
Elisabetta Maria Satellico was born in Venice on 9 January 1706 and was brought up in the house of her maternal uncle, a priest who oversaw her education. She was drawn early to prayer and to the Poor Clares.
As Sister Maria Crocifissa she became abbess, outstanding in contemplation of the mystery of the Cross and full of mystical gifts.
