Who they were

María de la Asuncion Mayoral Pena was born in the village of Tardajos near Burgos on 19 August 1879, made her religious vows as a Daughter of Charity of St Vincent de Paul in 1902 and nursed the blind at a hospital in Madrid; forced to leave in 1936, she went on to Leganes, where she was seized and put in chains. She was beatified on 13 October 2013 by Pope Francis, among the companions of Melchora de la Adoracion Cortés Bueno.

Driven out of the hospital where she nursed the blind, she was arrested at Leganes.
