Who they were
At Valencia in Spain, Blessed Maria del Calvario Romero Clariana, in the world Josefa, virgin of the Congregation of Christian Doctrine and martyr, was thrown into prison during the persecution and finally killed for remaining faithful to Christ her Bridegroom.
The Acta Apostolicae Sedis record that she was born on 11 April 1871 at Carlet in the archdiocese of Valencia and entered the Congregation of Christian Doctrine in 1892; she was killed in the night between 26 and 27 September 1936 and was beatified at Rome on 1 October 1995 by John Paul II with Angela de San Jose Lloret Marti and sixteen companions.
