María Guadalupe García Zavala
Mexican Catholic nun and saint (1878-1963)

Who they were
Anastasia Guadalupe García Zavala was born at Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, on 27 April 1878 and baptised the next day. Her aunt, Venerable Mother Librada Orozco, prepared her for First Communion in 1887.
She co-founded the Handmaids of St Margaret Mary and of the Poor and worked devotedly among the poor and the sick.
The miracles
A healing investigated in Guadalajara in 2001, examined by the medical board on 13 March 2003 and the theologians on 17 June 2003, and recognised as a true miracle by the cardinals and bishops on 11 November 2003.
Why that counted as sanctity
A Mexican foundress who served the poor and the sick with her whole life.
