Who they were
Angela Caterina Isacchi, known as Ancilla, was born at Stezzano, near Bergamo, on 8 May 1857. She founded the Ursulines of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Asola, taking the name Maria Ignazia.
As Superior General she moved the motherhouse to Asola, near Mantua, and led the institute until 1924. She died on 19 August 1934.
The miracles
Sister Maria Assunta, aged 23 — Italy — 27-29 September 1950
A young sister was seriously ill with tuberculosis that did not respond to treatment. After a novena invoking Mother Isacchi, and with a medal bearing her image placed on her, she recovered suddenly and completely.
The Pope has approved the miracle, so the way to beatification is open. We have not yet confirmed a date for the ceremony; until then the Church's title is Venerable.
Why that counted as sanctity
The case of Sister Maria Assunta, aged 23 was examined by the Church's doctors and theologians and approved as a miracle on 22 January 2026, opening the way to beatification.
