Who they were
Gertrude Prosperi was born at Fogliano, near Cascia, on 19 August 1799. She entered the Benedictine monastery of Santa Lucia at Trevi on 4 May 1820.
Elected abbess on 1 October 1837, she strengthened the observance of the rule, cared for her sisters' spiritual life and restored the monastery, which flourished under her until her death in 1847.
