Maria Margareta Krückl (Sr. Maria)
Austrian novice of the Vorau Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, shot dead defending her chastity at the end of the war
Who they were
Born at Wenigzell in Styria on 17 June 1918, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception at Vorau in 1944 and was clothed as Sr. Maria that September; sent home in April 1945 as the front approached, she was shot twice in the head on 8 April 1945 and buried in her mother's grave at Wenigzell three days later.

Why that counted as sanctity
Her congregation, the Vorauer Marienschwestern, calls her a Servant of God and says her beatification process has been running since 2022; the diocesan inquiry in the diocese of Graz-Seckau opened on 4 May 2022.
